Founded on the 10 august 1938 is the most important stadium in Colombia. It is the home ground of the Independiente Santa Fe and Millonarios association football teams. The idea of building a stadium for the joy of the people in Bogota was of Jorge Eliecer Gaitan, then the mayor of Bogota. The owner of the stadium is the I.D.R.D (Instituto Distrital de Recreacion y Deporte).

The surface of the court is made of natural grass; the size of the field is of 105x68 m and has a capacity for almost 37 thousand people. The important events that the stadium has carried out are the 1938 Bolivarian games, 1964 Southamerican Championship, 1968, 1971 and 1980 Preolimpic Championship, 2001 America Cup, 2004 National Games and the 2011 FIFA U-20 World Cup, also league matches of Colombia and friendly national and international matches. The stadium have had hard times because of the violence of the “Barras Bravas” in Colombia, as the Hooligans in England, but it still being a great place to go to have fun and for tourists to visit and have a good time.
